about
The song is about the ongoing desire to be youthful.
The feeling that youthfulness might be slipping from your grasp. It’s a bit of a whinge, but there’s a beauty in the nostalgic notions of a life well lived and for that reason this song has become a bit of a monument.
The first verse in the song, I had a visual of a small boat moored in the bay at Broughton Island and then it kind of went from there.
It wasn't until the song was recorded that i realised how much it felt like the ocean was inside the music. I could see the waves rolling. I could see the turns arching back against a golden sunset spray. I guess thats what it became for me. The ocean attains many metaphors and much of my youthfulness.
See what you feel.
lyrics
Reasonable sized tender, rubbing up the mooring.
A barely floating tender, waiting, watching the bottom of the world.
A little broken hearted, for the dearly departed. We're gunna finish what we started, when the mothership, it finally returns.
I feel like an old road, straight down the line, with familiar turns
I feel like an old road, damaged by the wet, lonely in the cold.
Hot Rod with no brakes, next to no steering.
Going to drive into out of space, gunna gunna call my mates.
Imagine the conversation, if we were pelicans, flying through the preservation. fixing tricky things with our hands..
I feel like an old road....
Where's my adventure, before dementia, eyes back rolling, im dreaming about turtles. All the fun is potential, sometimes consequential. Im a squeaky old swing set. Please just push me in the air.
I feel like an old road....

Amongst the moist dry fog, Magpie Diaries share pungent warmth. It's like a magic cake made up of nuts and grains of conflicting size, blended smooth through soul country, alternative folk rock with occasional flourishes of psychedelic nuance.
